Our Story

"As a Brazilian immigrant, I moved to Charlotte with my son, knowing few people in the area. Seeking a way for him to connect and stay active, I signed him up for public tennis group clinics. The sport quickly became a passion for him—he made lifelong friends, started competing in USTA tournaments and recently joined his high school team.

My own journey with tennis began after COVID, when I saw how much the sport meant to my son. I wanted to share the experience with him, but tennis gave me so much more than just time on the court. It introduced me to a welcoming community, a sense of belonging, and a sport I now know I’ll play for the rest of my life.

My belief in the power of connection and access to opportunities isn’t limited to the tennis court. As a graduate program manager, I developed a new initiative in Latin America that exposed writers to diverse cultures, fostering creativity, collaboration, and cross-cultural understanding. Just as that program opened doors for writers, I see public tennis as a way to open doors for individuals and communities in Charlotte. Through tennis, my son and I found not only a game we love but also a network of support, friendship, and growth. This experience fuels my commitment to ensuring that everyone in Charlotte, regardless of background or circumstance, has the chance to discover the same joy, connection, and transformative opportunities that tennis has brought to my family."

"As a native Charlottean, I’m thrilled to be back teaching tennis in my hometown. With over 20 years of experience—from the Rick Macci Tennis Academy to clubs in Greenwich, CT, and Bald Head Island—I’ve taught in many places, but my passion lies in public parks. There, I get to work with players of all ages and skill levels, making the game accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

Growing up, my father led the Urban Ministry Center, and I saw firsthand how community engagement and outreach can transform lives. That’s why I’m so committed to the Charlotte Public Tennis Foundation. Tennis isn’t just a sport—it’s a way to build connections, break down barriers, and strengthen our community. This initiative is about making sure everyone, no matter their background, has the chance to experience the joy and opportunities tennis brings."
